Another two weeks in Fernie, BC has come and gone, and I miss it already. Jules Mcann and I hosted two groups during the two weeks, and a great time was had by all. Some of the highlights of our trip were: Fishing a beautiful river in Alberta for wild rainbows, that we had all to ourselves, where light tippets and small flies were the norm. The fish weren't easy, but we had rising fish all day and some were quite large. While on the river one day, a black bear proceeded to swim between myself and my partner, apparently oblivious to our presence. Fortunately, he continued on his way without a problem.
Venturing far up logging roads to remote sections of small streams to catch big native westslope cutthroats on dry flies--the quietness and wildness of these streams was amazing. Bull trout on streamers. Cocktails and dinner with our friends at our awesome log home, equipped with hot tub, steam room and several porches for hanging out. The camaraderie and stories after a day of fishing. Big fish on dry flies from small, scenic streams. The Fernie ghost rider. The great folks at Elk River Guiding Co. in Fernie. The lack of people and fishing pressure. We'll be back next August for sure!
